After the Maine House voted to take the state out of the National Popular Vote Compact on May 20th (TMP Write-Up), the Maine Senate finally had there turn to vote on LD 252.
Unfortunately for those optimistic with the house vote, the senate did not provide a similar result. With one Republican not casting a vote, the bill failed 16 – 18 along party lines. The notable exceptions where Sen. Jill Duson of Cumberland and Sen. Craig Hickman of Kennebec joining their republican colleagues and voting for LD 252. Both Sen. Duson & Sen. Hickman are members of the Veterans & Legal Affairs Committee and were part of the majority recommendation that Maine withdraw from the compact.
